An old painting, retouched when it eventually found a meaning for itself.
A temporarily or periodically shifted or reduced perspective.. A head in a box.. Mental cabin fever.. Claustrophobic in one’s own skin..
Woods walked in daytime, inhabited by glimpsed creatures that are joyful to behold in those hours, but in darkness this same wooded place, splintered with footsteps and noises unseen from somewhere amongst the trees, are a different place now, with vision impaired and perspective reducing itself.. Finding oneself alone with only an imagination erring on the side of survival instinct mode against ones vulnerability in the dark.. Muted.. A prey mentality until sunrise, but here now even the certainty of dawn feels like an empty promise. Noises grow nearer, clearer, it seems, as you stare into your own blindspot.. You wait.. for birds to sing that its safe again, having hidden themselves in trees, unable to fly in the dark, they wait. but then dawn comes again, striping between the trees, illuminating the difference, the distance between oneself and ones restricted perspective, how they are not the same thing, Just dead wood cracking under foot.. The other world returns to where a deer stands looking back at you in these same places that were at one time so differently dark.. To what you were waiting to see again..
You both know, can both feel how warmer the sun feels now.
I havent commented on this yet cause it got staight to me, a bit overwhelming. My absolute favourite painting by you so far, I love when you keep imagery simple and effective, not too much details. Sometimes simplicity is everything.
Your beautiful explanation day - night corresponds with the exposed light body and the darker head perhaps not thinking clearly, like the mind is temporarily boxed in in darkness, even stapled to the wall, though there seems to be hope with the box edges flowing out unlike the boxed in body.
Interesting that the more restricted body box has an opening downwards into dynamic water or fog. To me that represents the subconcious where the answers to many difficult issues are. The body seems exposed and closer to the subconcious, Jungs collective unconcious even, that were all a part of, all colours and creeds. The body doesnt lie, everything we experience is boxed in the body forever, the mind we can change and trick by sheer willpower.
The claustrophobia and cabin fever can affect either mind or body, at worst both. Wonderful expressions for that state btw. Its human not to be connected mind - body at times, depending on how you look at it that can lead to good experiences, main thing you find your way back to a sensible unity psyche - soma.
Fantastic painting, technique, composition as usual. So very emotional.
